You know those movies that you keep hearing about from your friends or reading about in websites or magazines but you never have the chance or time to actually watch it so you make it an obligation to do so? Requiem for a Dream is, or was, one of those movies for me. I just finished watching it ( all thanks to Jason's words of encouragement after I've had it sitting around my room confined in a flimsy netflix envelope just waiting to be opened) and I'm glad I did. One word comes to mind after viewing the flick, intense. Very intense. Maybe it's just me, but why are films with plots that center around the subject of drugs/drug use so loved by the general public and in most cases, also critically acclaimed? We've got movies like Pineapple Express ( which I'm sad to say, is not as funny as I thought it would be. started off well, then just fizzled out in the end), Trainspotting( I seriously need to watch this, it'll be in my queue soon), and of course Requiem( just to name a few, theres plenty more out there) that all deal with drug use and have managed to collect many, many fans. I guess it's purely entertaining to watch drug addicts get themselves in hot messes or as they go through their stages of withdrawal. Or maybe these drug-related movies just happen to be well-made and have all the components of what makes a good movie? I don't know. Drugs( and I'm not talking prescription) have become a ubiquitous part of our society; it's in our movies, music, streets, and homes.( and in our bodies) just sayin'
WALL OF TEXT ^^^
Requiem for a Dream
The acting was outstanding, especially on Ellen Burstyn's part, wow. Leto and Connelly did a great job as well. The editing was brilliant; including many fast-paced shots that really set the mood of the film. I loved the split screen moments as well. Definitely leaves an artsy taste in your mouth. Good plot, intense, very rivetting. A must watch ( and as the synopsis on the netflix paper case says "Not for the squeamish")
Movie Brilliance : 8.5/10
( i hate doing point five shits but I don't really think it's a 9 or an 8, besides I'm terrible at grading movies and I just give 9s to all my favorites)
so far my life is entirely too dull and wasteful to be written about. to prove my point; the biggest decision I had to make so far in my life was whether to buy a PS3 or 360... I've decided.....
